Ipswich Town have signed Manchester City defender Reece Wabara on loan until January.

The 19-year-old right-back's only senior appearance came as a late substitute against Bolton on the final day of last season

He is likely to be named in the squad for Saturday's visit of Brighton.

"He's an England Under-20 player, can play at centre-back but right-back is his preferred position," boss Paul Jewell told BBC Radio Suffolk, external.

Wabara spent the summer with England at the Under-20 World Cup.

He will face competition from incumbent right-back Carlos Edwards and Town youngster Jack Ainsley for a starting berth.

Meanwhile, striker Daryl Murphy is a doubt for the the Seagulls clash after he pulled a hamstring before Tuesday's win at West Ham.

"He's had it for a while, we felt it wasn't worth the risk, we'll check him this morning [Thursday]," Jewell explained.
