Braintree Town 3-1 Darlington

  • Published

Braintree recorded their first win in October at the expense of Darlington.

The hosts went in front before the interval when David Stevens converted Ben Wright's free-kick.

Kenny Davis headed a Wright corner beyond visiting keeper Ole Soderburg before Sean Marks finished off good work by Brad Quinton to make it 3-0.

The Quakers at least had something to show for their day's efforts when Graeme Lee stooped to head in Ryan Bowman's knock down.

Braintree Town manager Alan Devonshire told BBC Essex:

Devonshire pleased with 'positive' Braintree

"We defended when we needed to, we gave one sloppy goal away at the end but we could have scored five or six, I'm delighted.

"They (the players) were positive and they took responsibility, with and without the ball. That's what players have got to do.

"Now we've got this win after the defeats we've had its give us a lift and hopefully we can push on again."

Darlington boss Mark Cooper told BBC Tees:

Cooper irritated by lack of Quakers spirit

"We looked frightened to death, experienced players were nowhere near didn't look like they wanted to play today.

The only bright sparks today were when we put the young guys on, so that might be the way to go.

Maybe we have to get rid of the old fogies, and start putting spirit in the team and young players who want to play for the club."
