Uefa has delayed giving the Football Association its written reasons behind Wayne Rooney's three-match ban "for another week at a minimum".

The England striker received the punishment after being sent off for kicking Miodrag Dzudovovic during the 2-2 draw with Montenegro this month.

European football's governing body had been expected to provide the FA with its reasons for the ban on Thursday.

The FA said it will decide on the terms of its appeal after it hears from Uefa.

"The FA has today [Wednesday] been advised by Uefa that we may not be provided with the written reasons regarding Wayne Rooney's three-match suspension for another week at a minimum," read an FA statement.

"Once the reasons are received, the FA will determine on any appeal after discussions with [England manager] Fabio Capello and Wayne Rooney."

If Rooney's ban is upheld, Capello has a dilemma as to whether to pick the Manchester United forward in his squad for Euro 2012.

England have already qualified for the tournament but Rooney would miss the entire group stage.
