Dundee Utd boss Peter Houston confirms chairman talks

Dundee United manager Peter Houston will hold talks over his future following Saturday's league game against Dunfermline.

The Scottish Premier League club have dismissed reports that his position is under threat as "speculation".

"Yes, I will be sitting down with the chairman but my only focus at the minute is on the Dunfermline match," Houston told BBC Scotland.

United sit third bottom of the table with just two league wins this season.

Houston, who was appointed in May 2010, also assists Scotland manager Craig Levein.

The United boss succeeded Levein at Tannadice and has always stressed that his work with the national side would not clash with his club commitments.

The club released a statement on Thursday, declining to comment on speculation surrounding the manager's position.

Houston led United to Scottish Cup success months after taking the Tannadice reins from Levein and kept the club in the top four in his first full season in charge.

However, a number of key players left in the summer, including last season's top goalscorer, David Goodwillie and midfielders Morgaro Gomis, Prince Buaben and Craig Conway.

Asked whether he could survive a defeat by Dunfermline, Houston said: "You'd better ask the chairman [Stephen Thompson] that."
