Truro City denied win at Eastbourne by late equaliser

A late goal by Ben Watson denied Truro City victory and forced them to settle for a 2-2 draw at Eastbourne Borough in Blue Square Bet South.

Carl Rook gave Eastbourne an eighth minute lead which they held on to until half-time.

But Scott Walker converted a 48th minute penalty and Jake Ash gave City the lead four minutes later before Watson struck with eight minutes left.

"A draw was a fair result in the end," Truro boss Lee Hodges said.

But Hodges felt his side only got going following his half-time team talk.

"Second half, from the word go, we came out all guns blazing and we took the game to them.

"I just felt first half that we turned up with not the attitude to win the game, but an attitude of not getting beat and concede too many.

"It was really disappointing to concede, we were getting deeper and deeper as the game went on and it was expected they were going to push on and try and get something."

Despite conceding such a late equaliser, Hodges praised his team's efforts after an almost 650-mile round-trip to Eastbourne, one of their longest away journeys of the season.

"It is a hell of a journey for the boys, some of whom have worked in the morning," he added.

"We'll have to get back on the coach and we won't be getting back until four in the morning and some will be going straight to work afterwards.

"Hats off to them, they've all got a big pat on the back from me because I thought they all worked their socks off, every one of them."
