Dover Athletic have released midfielder Luke I'Anson from the Crabble Ground, following Sam Cutler out of the club.

I'Anson made nine appearances for Dover this season but has had his contract terminated by mutual constent.

The club's website, external added: "The club would like to thank Luke for his effort and wish him well for the future."

Last week, fellow midfielder Cutler also departed the Crabble and has since joined struggling Blue Square Bet South side Thurrock.

Chairman Jim Parmenter said the players were surplus to requirements at the club.

"We've got far too big a squad wtih 24 players. That squad, unfortunately for Luke and Sam, is very heavy on central midfield players.

"They were not getting in the side and they requested to be released because they had the option to play all the time for other clubs."

He added: "When it was clear that they were not getting in the side, they had offers from elsewhere and decided to take them up.

"It would be churlish of us not to accept that."
