Young striker George Bowerman signs new Walsall contract

Young Walsall striker George Bowerman has agreed a new 18-month contract, with the club retaining the option to keep him for a further year.

The 20-year old has broken into the first-team this season, scoring as a substitute against Bury and Exeter.

"George has done really well. He has worked extremely hard over the past year or so and thoroughly deserves this new deal," said boss Dean Smith.

"His attitude has been first class. He's a willing lad who wants to learn."

Bowerman signed his first professional contract in the summer of 2010, a deal that was set to expire in January.

He continued his footballing education last season with a loan spell at Redditch United in the Blue Square Bet South.

"He was a regular scorer at youth and reserve team level, and now he is starting to transfer that into the first team," Smith noted. "This contract is a reward for that.

"Hopefully he will go on to score many more goals for this club. I'm looking forward to working with him and helping him develop."

Bowerman is the latest young talent to pledge his future to Walsall, following hard on the heels of striker Will Grigg and midfielder Jamie Paterson.
