Northampton won their first game in Aidy Boothroyd's six matches in charge after holding on to beat Morecambe.

The Cobblers led when John Johnson headed home Michael Jacobs's corner from close range.

Akwasi Asante doubled the lead with a long-range strike.

Kevin Ellison pulled one back when he converted Laurence Wilson's cross but Morecambe could not find a leveller despite Danny Carlton, Gary McDonald and Lewis Alessandra all going close.

VIEWS FROM THE DRESSING ROOM

"I thought we deserved the win. We stood up to what we had and we dealt with the conditions better.

"We have got to look to build on it. We have got a draw and a win in 2012 and we need to make sure 2012 is a better year than 2011 was."
