Davis made his first start for two months at Bristol Rovers on Saturday

Harry Davis believes Crewe's poor home record in League Two this season is due to the defensive tactics of opposition teams when they visit Gresty Road.

The Alex have taken just 11 points from 11 home games and suffered a sixth home defeat against Morecambe on Monday.

"Teams know we're a good passing team at home so they look for an early goal and then sit back," defender Davis, 20, told BBC Radio Stoke.

"It's hard to break them down when they've got players behind the ball."

He added: "I think every team that have come here have done that. Our starts have been a bit iffy at times and when they do drop off, we can't seem to find an answer and get that goal."

Kevin Ellison's first-half strike was enough to give Morecambe all three points on Monday.

Davis, son of Crewe manager Steve, was making his second start in quick succession, having played just 22 minutes of first-team football in the previous two months before coming back into the line-up at Bristol Rovers.

"Towards the end I was a bit tired, but that's going to be because I've played two games in two days," he said.

"I think I've done alright but there's always room for improvement."

Crewe host League Two's bottom club Plymouth on Saturday.
