Truro City boss Lee Hodges unhappy with referee after loss

Truro City boss Lee Hodges was unhappy with the performance of the referee in his side's 5-1 loss at Welling in the Blue Square Bet South.

Lee Clarke's penalty gave Welling a 40th-minute lead before Dean Cracknell and Luis Cumbers each got two second-half goals for the hosts.

Scott Walker scored a consolation penalty with 12 minutes to go for City.

"It's hard when you've got a referee that I think was out of his depth," Hodges told BBC Radio Cornwall.

"It's crucial decision-making, the first goal was offside and he gives a penalty to them and the second goal we break and he brings the ball back, gives them a free-kick and they score from that.

"Les Afful was going through, gets taken out, and the boy only gets a yellow card. It's just decisions like that - they say referees don't cost you games but they do."

Welling moved up to second after the win, while Hodges' side stay 11th in the Blue Square Bet South.

And despite the loss Hodges was full of praise for his side.

"I think the boys battled hard and I couldn't ask any more from them," he added.

"It's hard work when you're trying to battle hard and trying to get things from the game and the officiating isn't up to standards.

"It was a tough day to come here without the officials, but with them, they made it hard for us."
