Kettering Town manager Mark Cooper is considering his position after just one game back at the troubled club.

Cooper replaced Mark Stimson on Wednesday after receiving reassurances that funds were forthcoming.

But after the 3-1 defeat by Telford, he told BBC Radio Northampton: "I came in with the guarantee that investors would be in by now. That hasn't happened.

"I have my own reputation to look after. Let's see what happens over the weekend," he added.

Kettering, who have not won since October, are in the Blue Square Bet Premier relegation zone, under a transfer embargo, and were only able to name three substitutes at Telford on Saturday.

They also face a winding-up petition next month.

Former Peterborough manager Cooper, who managed the Poppies between 2007 and 2009 and was most recently in charge at Darlington, said: "There's only so long they can keep [playing while not getting paid in full], to keep putting your neck on the block when you have got bills to pay and children to feed and I have sympathy for them.

"Kettering, in non-league terms, is a big club. It's gone backwards. It needs help quickly. Things need to change or there isn't going to be a club."
