Torquay moved into the League Two play-off places with victory at Morecambe.
The Gulls went ahead when a corner from Ian Morris was not cleared by the Shrimps defence and that enabled Mark Ellis to score from close range.
Danny Stevens doubled Torquay's lead when he finished after Lee Mansell's initial shot rebounded into his path.
Phil Jevons pulled one back with a low shot and Morecambe had a late chance to equalise but Robert Olejnik saved Nick Fenton's spectacular overhead kick.
VIEWS FROM THE DRESSING ROOM
Torquay United manager Martin Ling told BBC Radio Devon:
"It was a dogged display. The conditions would never be condusive to a good game of football. We had to do the dirty side of the game and take our chances when they come.
"Every time we looked to go forward we looked like we were going to get chances - Danny Stevens hit the post and Ian Morris hit the bar from a great shot in the first half.
"There's a long, long, long way to go. Let's take the plaudits while we can. This month's been good so far and we are on a hell of a run at the moment."
