Chesterfield assistant manager Tommy Wright says the club's Johnstone's Paint Trophy campaign is not getting in the way of their relegation battle.

The Spireites, who are bottom of League One, are due to host Oldham in the first leg of the Northern Area final on Tuesday, subject to a pitch inspection.

He told BBC Radio Sheffield: "If you've got a chance to get to Wembley I don't think it's a game getting in the way.

"You don't get a chance to play in a cup final at Wembley very often."

Wright added: "I'd be very surprised if the players don't realise what an opportunity it is and Oldham will feel the same.

"It's a great opportunity for both clubs to get to Wembley. When you get close to that Wembley [appearance] it gets people excited and the players should be really buzzing."

The first leg of the tie at the B2net Stadium is subject to a 1400 GMT pitch inspection on Tuesday and the game will be postponed 24 hours to Wednesday if the pitch is found to be frozen.

Chesterfield are seven points from safety and are without a win in the league since 17 September 2011, when they beat Carlisle 4-1.

The tie with Oldham means Wright and Spireites boss John Sheridan will be going head-to-head with their former club.

And Wright is well aware of the task facing them against Paul Dickov's Latics.

"I think Paul has done a good job," added Wright.

"Me and John we there a few years ago and it's tough for them with the crowds and having Manchester City and United on their doorstep.

"They'll be looking at it the same as us, as a great opportunity financially and [as a way] to get to Wembley."
