Newcastle United's James Tavernier loaned to MK Dons

MK Dons have signed Newcastle United right-back James Tavernier on loan until the end of the season.

The 20-year-old has had spells at MK's League One rivals Carlisle and Sheffield Wednesday already this term.

He made 17 appearances for the Cumbrians before featuring eight times for Wednesday.

The defender, who can also operate at centre-half, made his Magpies debut in a League Cup tie against Peterborough in September 2009.

He will replace Adam Smith at Stadium MK, after he was recalled by parent club Tottenham on Monday and subsequently loaned out to Leeds United.

Meanwhile, the Dons have released winger Anthony McNamee by mutual consent. The 28-year-old made had just eight appearances since signing from Norwich in the summer.
