Dartford fitness powering promotion push - Burman

Dartford's promotion challenge is being bolstered by their superior fitness levels according to their manager Tony Burman.

The Darts thrashed play-off rivals Sutton United 6-1 on Tuesday, scoring four times in the second half.

Burman told BBC Radio Kent: "I didn't think Sutton could keep up the pace they were playing at.

"I'm very impressed with the way they look after themselves. That's telling at this moment in time."

Billed as a pivotal promotion battle, the game turned into more of a procession for Dartford as six different goalscorers helped seal their biggest win of the season.

Dartford netted twice in the final 10 minutes for the second game running and Burman praised his players for their intensity for the full 90 minutes.

"You've got to want to win. It's no good having this nice football, you've got to work hard.

"If you don't work hard you'll get nothing," he added. "If you work hard, the quality will come through and that's our philosophy at this moment in time."

Elsewhere in the Blue Square Bet South, Dartford's win gave Welling United a bit of breathing space in third place. The Wings routed Maidenhead 4-0, Luis Cumbers netting his tenth and eleventh league goals of the season.

Tonbridge Angels maintained their incredible form this season with a narrow 2-1 win at Eastleigh. Lee Browning scored in the fourth minute of stoppage time to earn Tommy Warrilow's men their fourth win in five.

The Angels, who were promoted from the Isthmian Premier last summer, lie 8th in the league, just 10 points off the play-off places.

Meanwhile, Bromley's woes continued as they were held to a goalless draw at home to Havant and Waterlooville. The Ravens are precariously perched just one point above the relegation zone, without a win in five.
