Sheffield Wednesday chairman Milan Mandaric almost quit

Sheffield Wednesday chairman Milan Mandaric has revealed he came close to quitting the club.

Mandaric, alongside Spurs boss Harry Redknapp, was found not guilty of tax evasion in February.

"It's been a difficult year for me. I've never experienced anything like it before," he told BBC Radio Sheffield.

"I thought maybe it's not for me and it would be better if I just left the club at the end of the season. I was very close to going a couple of times."

He continued: "It wasn't easy, my family suffered a lot. I was very much humiliated a few times."

Wednesday were promoted back to the Championship on Saturday after a final day victory over Wycombe Wanderers.

And despite the celebrations, the former Portsmouth and Leicester City chairman admits he is still unsure how long he will remain at Hillsborough.

"The ambitions of this club are to move forward, it deserves to be in the top 10 in the country," he added.

"Whether I will be the man to take it all the way up there remains to be seen. No matter what happens this club has to keep progressing," he said

The Serb took over at Wednesday in December 2010 and said he was delighted to help the club to promotion in his first full year at the club.

"It feels incredible. I didn't recognise how big the reward would be to see how happy the fans are. I am full of admiration for them.

"People are giving me a lot of credit but I always say it's down to the people I surround myself with and I surrounded myself with very good people here," he added.
