Bolton boss Owen Coyle to end season of 'trauma' with smiles

Bolton boss Owen Coyle "truly believes" his side can stay in the Premier League after this weekend.

Coyle said Bolton have had a season "you could not make up", with long-term injuries to key players like Stuart Holden and Lee Chung-yong.

Midfielder Fabrice Muamba also suffered a cardiac arrest in an FA Cup game against Tottenham in March.

"What we have to do is get ourselves ready for a must-win game on Sunday - it is as simple as that," Coyle said.

"We know that after everything that has happened, we have an opportunity to go and win that game and be smiling on Sunday night."

Bolton have to win their final game at Stoke, and hope other results go their way to guarantee their survival in the Premier League.

But despite everything that has happened this season, Coyle is still certain the Trotters can stay up.

"The events that have taken place involving this football club this year have been beyond belief - you couldn't have made this stuff up," he said.

"But it's happened, we've had to deal with it and that is what we have done."

Coyle said the injury against Stoke for defender David Wheater sums up their season.

"It looked innocuous, it really did at the time," Coyle said.

"David cleared the ball and I think he has fallen back and twisted his knee. It certainly looks as if possibly it will be nine months before he is back."
