In-form Burnley striker Charlie Austin scored his 20th goal of the season to seal a win over Leeds United.
Austin, who has scored 16 times in his last 11 matches, headed a late winner at Turf Moor to seal a second straight win for new manager Sean Dyche.
Leeds's best effort saw Aidy White's shot saved by home 'keeper Lee Grant.
Burnley leapfrogged Leeds into 10th place as the visitors, now without a win in their last five league matches, dropped into the bottom half.
Leeds goalkeeper Paddy Kenny made a superb early double save, first keeping out Ross Wallace's 20-yard shot at full stretch and then blocking Dean Marney's follow-up.
Burnley looked likeliest to score as the match approached the break, with Kieran Trippier's powerful drive forcing Kenny into a fumbling save before Austin fired straight at the Leeds keeper moments later.
However, it could have been different had Leeds forward El-Hadji Diouf not spurned a gilt-edged chance when he dragged wide from 12 yards after 30 minutes. And White may feel he should have done better from a promising position shortly after the hour mark.
Former Swindon striker Austin broke the deadlock after 83 minutes when he headed Trippier's right-wing cross into the bottom corner of the Leeds net.
Leeds defender Jason Pearce almost snatched an equaliser from close range following Michael Brown's 89th-minute free-kick, but Burnley held on to register their first win over Leeds in six matches.
Burnley manager Sean Dyche: "There is no reason why Charlie cannot go on and get more. There are no boundaries.
"Charlie knows the build-up to that goal was top drawer. If you give someone like Charlie a ball like that into the box there is a good chance it will end up in the back of the net, especially at the moment."
Leeds manager Neil Warnock: "I don't think I've been as disappointed as this all season, I don't know how we haven't won that. I feel like I've been mugged.
"I'm really disappointed. You cannot miss chances like we have. We had a few words at half-time and we were better in the second half, we dominated.
"You have to die to get your goal. We had chances to win the game but we go back home, tail between the legs and we have lost another game."
