Kidderminster Harriers: Jamille Matt resolves citizenship issue

Kidderminster Harriers have begun the process of allowing striker Jamille Matt to play for the club again after he resolved his citizenship problems.

Jamaican-born Matt, 23, has not played since February because of issues over his work permit.

But after these were quashed, Harriers have asked for permission to play him against AFC Telford on Saturday.

"It's been a very frustrating time for the lad," Harriers boss Steve Burr told BBC Hereford & Worcester.

"He's been a big miss. You can see it like how he finished off last year, when he was getting in the team, scoring and creating a lot of attention from Football League clubs."

Despite not playing for nine months, the former Northampton Town target has continued to train with the club, where he scored 14 goals in 54 appearances.

And Harriers chairman Mark Serrell believes that the ruling will have a positive impact on the side who sit just two points above the Blue Square Bet Premier relegation places in 17th.

He told the club website: "Everybody at Kidderminster Harriers is absolutely delighted for Jamille, not only the footballer but also a young man who deserves the opportunity to get back to work, doing what he loves.

"He's been able to train with his team-mates over the last few months but is chomping at the bit to get back into the squad and do his bit to help us continue climbing the table."
