Swindon Town's Chris Smith joins Northampton Town on loan

Northampton Town have signed Swindon right-back Chris Smith on loan up to and including 1 January.

The 22-year-old won a competition to earn a one-year deal at the County Ground in February.

His only senior appearance was as a substitute in a 0-0 draw against Bradford at the end of last season.

"Chris is here to give us the option of an extra defender through a busy period," Cobblers boss Aidy Boothroyd told the club website.

"With the loan window closing and injuries to John Johnson and David Artell, I felt we needed another defender in the squad to see us through a hectic run of games."
