York 4-1 Bristol Rovers

York hammered Bristol Rovers, a result that signalled the end of Mark McGhee's 11-month reign at the Memorial Stadium.

The Minstermen scored all four of their goals in the first 33 minutes, the first a headed own goal by Pirates defender Garry Kenneth.

Tom Eaves fired Rovers level a minute later, but the hosts took control once Ashley Chambers had restored the lead with a header from Matty Blair's cross.

Jason Walker volleyed a third and a chip from Chambers completed the rout.

The defeat, a ninth in Rovers' last 11 matches, saw McGhee relieved of his duties less than a year after being appointed as successor to Paul Buckle.

They remain second from bottom in League Two, a point from safety.

York City manager Gary Mills told BBC Radio York:

"We've addressed this week about being on the front foot and making it difficult for teams. Within half an hour, we've done what we've done.

"Obviously we're disappointed to concede straight after we've scored, but we bounced back again straight away and what good goals they were.

"In the last three games, we've taken six points and scored seven goals. The players have deserved that today."
