Plymouth Argyle's Nick Chadwick 'deserved' goal

Plymouth boss Carl Fletcher says Nick Chadwick's hard work has paid off after he scored his first goal since August.

The striker scored in the last minute to secure the Pilgrims' first win in eight games in League Two.

"I'm really pleased for Chads, he's really knuckled down and worked hard," Fletcher told BBC Radio Devon.

"He's done well for us in the last four games, he's been getting bumped and bruised and he probably hadn't had the goals that he deserved."

The goal was the former Everton striker's first since netting in the 3-0 Capital One Cup win over Portsmouth.

"I went with Griff [Rhys Griffiths] because he looked a bit fresher and a bit sharper," Fletcher added.

"And with Chaddy playing a lot of games lately, I said let him do all the hard work, let him get all the knocks and elbows in the back of the head.

"Then you can come on when the game's a bit stretched and go and get your goal and it panned out that way."

Chadwick, who signed a permanent deal with the club in January following two loan spells at Home Park, nodded home from close range to seal a much-needed win.

"For any striker it's great to have an open goal from a yard out," Fletcher joked.

"It's great for us because you want people playing well and training well and pushing for a place in the side."
