Gavin Tomlin's brace against former club Dagenham & Redbridge helped promotion hopefuls Southend United extend their unbeaten run to 14 games.

The Shrimpers were ahead inside a minute when Tomlin's shot deflected beyond Chris Lewington.

Britt Assombalonga and Marc Laird then linked up to tee up Tomlin from close range for his 14th goal of the season.

Kevan Hurst fired in the third from 25 yards after Tomlin's lay-off to end the Daggers' two-game winning run.
