Accrington 1-0 Chesterfield

Manager Paul Cook endured an unhappy return to the Crown Ground as Chesterfield were beaten by Accrington.

Cook, who left Stanley in October, saw his new club denied by the woodwork twice in the first half.

Marc Richards and Mark Randall were the unlucky duo, the latter striking the bar with an audacious 45-yard effort.

And Romuald Boco, signed four times by Cook during his managerial career, came back to haunt his former boss, netting the only goal from inside the box.

The Benin international midfielder's ninth goal of the season gave Stanley a first win since 20 November.

Accrington manager Leam Richardson told BBC Radio Lancashire:

"I think we thoroughly deserved the win. Chesterfield are a good team with some very good players, but we gave a good account of ourselves.

"The tempo of our play was very good. It's something we've worked on.

"Other than the Rotherham game, I think we've deserved more than what we've got. It's a new year and let's hope we get a bit of luck that we didn't get at the end of last year."

Chesterfield manager Paul Cook told BBC Radio Sheffield:

"We've just created enough chances to win so many games, it just wasn't our day."

"The disappointing thing is the goal we gave away, that's my biggest concern."

"We give teams chances, it's Morecambe a goal, it's Burton a goal, there's a pattern to what we're doing.

"We haven't got clean sheets in us and since (beating) Port Vale away, we haven't gone on the run I thought we would."
