Scunthorpe 0-0 Shrewsbury

Shrewsbury extended their unbeaten run to seven games with a goalless draw at relegation-threatened Scunthorpe.

The home side enjoyed the bulk of the possession and chances but were unable to beat Shrewsbury keeper Chris Weale.

Nathan Ellington came closest to a goal for the Iron in the first half but his free-kick was well saved by Weale.

Jimmy Ryan and Andy Barcham were both denied by Weale in the second half, before Town nearly stole the points, but Jon Taylor's effort was saved.

Scunthorpe United manager Brian Laws told BBC Radio Humberside

"We've had a lot of possession today, more so than in most matches.

"But you've got to capitalise on the possession and the chances you create, and put the ball in the back of the net. Unfortunately today we didn't have that killer instinct in front of goal.

"Of course we are disappointed, over the last two games at home we should have had six points, so we'll take the positives from it and the small building blocks."

Shrewsbury Town manager Graham Turner told BBC Radio Shropshire:

"The game lasted 10 minutes, then it was exciting. The rest was a plodded affair.

"In the last 10 minutes we had great opportunities and I'm not too sure how the keeper saved our last effort near the final whistle.

"We have enjoyed a great run with clean sheets. It's been a pleasing period.

"We are in a position to strengthen now - so it is looking a lot better than it was a few months ago."
