Scunthorpe United have signed free agent Akpo Sodje on a short-term deal until the end of the season.

The 32-year-old striker scored seven goals in 17 games for Preston this season, before leaving in December.

Sodje told BBC Radio Humberside: "I'm feeling good and I'm glad that everything is sorted and I've got the chance to work with Brian Laws again.

"Brian knows what I can do, what I can bring to a team and how to get the best from me."

Sodje, who turned down a move to Russia in favour of joining the League One side, previously worked with the current Iron boss at Sheffield Wednesday.

And the experienced front-man is now aiming to help Laws guide the Glandford Park club away from the relegation zone.

"There's no doubt that we'll be able to stay up," Sodje continued. "We've been having a bad time but that is all changing now.

"I think my match fitness should be fine and I'll hopefully be fit for Saturday."

Scunthorpe, who are currently 21st in the table, face fellow strugglers Colchester on Saturday.
