Oxford United have extended defender Luke O'Brien's stay at the club until the end of the season.

The 24-year-old left-back has made seven appearances for the U's since signing a short-term deal in September.

With Liam Davis expected to be ruled out for a month with a hamstring injury, O'Brien will provide vital cover on the left side of defence.

"I'm really pleased to have signed. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Oxford," said O'Brien.

"The fans are excellent and we have worked very hard as a team to get into a good position in the league. I am looking forward to playing a part and trying to carry that on.

"It is great to have everything sorted and to know that I am here for longer.

"My partner is expecting our second child any day now, so it is nice to have that little bit of extra security for the next few months.

"We have a tough game at Fleetwood on Saturday, so right now I am totally focussed on helping the team get another three points."
