Algarve Cup 2013: Portugal Women 2-0 Wales Women

Midfielder Hayley Ladd was sent off during Wales' 2-0 defeat to hosts Portugal in their opening match of the Algarve Cup on Wednesday.

Ladd was sent off for a second yellow card and will be unavailable for Wales' next match against Mexico.

Portugal went in 1-0 ahead at half-time thanks to captain Edite Fernandes' 37th-minute penalty.

The striker struck again on 72 minutes to end Wales hopes despite an impressive second-half display.

Jarmo Matikainen's Wales side play Mexico, who beat Hungary 1-0, on Friday.
