Luton 0-0 Tamworth

Luton's faint hopes of reaching the play-offs were dented after being held to a goalless draw with Tamworth.

Lambs keeper Liam Mitchell proved to be in fine form, preventing the Hatters from taking the lead when he tipped Alex Wall's shot around the post.

And Mitchell was again on hand to keep out Jake Howell's 72nd-minute strike to deny Luton back-to-back league wins for the first time since October.

Darren Byfield came closest for the visitors, but saw his effort saved.

The stalemate left Luton nine points off the Blue Square Bet Premier play-off places, with just eight games to go, with Tamworth five points above the drop zone.

Luton manager John Still told BBC Three Counties Radio:

"We played well but couldn't score. We made the opportunities and if there was a disappointment, it's that we didn't challenge the goalkeeper enough.

"It wasn't easy, but having said that I thought we had four good opportunities to make the goalkeeper save it and we've missed the target.

"I've tried different sorts of (strike) partnerships which I'll keep trying until the end of the season because a partnership doesn't happen overnight.

"I wouldn't say this is the end of our play-off hopes, it's just a touch more difficult."
