Alloa 1-2 Queen of the South

Ryan McGuffie scored a late penalty as Queen of the South extended their lead at the top of Division Two to 24 points by beating second-placed Alloa.

Chances were at a premium in a poor first half with neither side able to create many genuine opportunities.

Martin Grehan and Kevin Cawley had early efforts for the hosts but failed to test visiting goalkeeper Lee Robinson.

The Doonhamers had failed to register a shot in the opening 40 minutes before they took the lead.

Nicky Clark was well placed to convert Christopher Mitchell's cross for his 31st goal of the season after the Wasps failed to clear their lines.

But the visitors were pegged back after 56 minutes when Cawley rose highest to head home James Doyle's cross.

However, McGuffie restored their lead from the penalty spot five minutes from time after Daryll Meggatt fouled Derek Young.
