Hereford United unable to pay staff full March wages

Hereford United have not paid staff their full March wages, reports BBC Hereford and Worcester.

The Bulls' chairman David Keyte says there has been a partial payment to all staff, but this was some way short of the full amount.

Low attendances for three successive home games, culminating in the club's lowest-ever league attendance, is being cited as the short-term trigger.

The club record-low of 662 came in the 1-0 win against Dartford in March.

That meant the cost of putting on the fixture was greater than the match-day revenue generated.

The Blue Square Bet Premier side announced in February that they made a loss of over £400,000 for the last financial year, during which they were relegated from the Football League.

Earlier this season, the side were facing administration over unpaid VAT and PAYE tax bills but a run to the FA Cup second round helped them settle the bill with HM Revenue and Customs.

However, it appears this provided only short-term respite as the club continued to lose £30,000 per month, ultimately leading to the recent failure to pay its staff.

Despite the off-field problems, the Bulls picked up their biggest win of the season on Monday, beating Tamworth 5-2 in front of an improved crowd of 1,424.

They currently sit seventh in the Blue Square Bet Premier table, nine points adrift of the play-off places.
