David Beckham sent off after six minutes in PSG victory

David Beckham was sent off just six minutes after coming on as a substitute in Paris St-Germain's 1-0 win at Evian.

The former England midfielder, 37, was shown a straight red in stoppage time following a lunge on Youssef Adnane.

PSG, who led through Javier Pastore's 50th-minute goal, were already a man down after Marco Verratti was sent off for a second bookable offence.

PSG sporting director Leonardo said the referee "made mistakes" and added the red card shown to Beckham was "unfair".

Evian's Saber Khelifa and PSG's Salvatore Sirigu were also sent off after the final whistle following a scuffle.

PSG assistant coach and former Chelsea midfielder Claude Makelele was sent to the stands during the Ligue 1 game for remonstrating following Beckham's dismissal.

"It was always a very tense match," added Leonardo, speaking to French newspaper Le Parisien. "Nobody wanted to lose, especially Evian, who are struggling to stay up.

"I also believe that our team is really tired at the end of the season."

Beckham joined the French club on a five-month contract in January and PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi is keen for the former Manchester United, Real Madrid and Los Angeles Galaxy player to extend his stay with the club.

Victory over Evian ensured PSG re-established their nine-point advantage over second-placed Marseille with four games left.

They will be crowned champions for the first time in 19 years if they secure a better result against Valenciennes than Marseille manage against Bastia on Saturday.
