Forward Joe Anyinsah has been released by Bristol Rovers after failing to earn a new contract at the Memorial Stadium.

The Bristol-born 28-year-old was left out of the squad for the final game of the season - a 3-3 draw with Torquay.

Anyinsah spent two seasons with the League Two club, scoring nine goals in 64 appearances.

"Joe is not being offered a new deal but we all wish him every success for the future," manager John Ward told the club website.

Anyinsah started his career at Rovers' rivals Bristol City, before spells at Hereford, Preston, Bury, Crewe, Brighton, Carlisle and Charlton.

He was released by the Addicks in June 2011 and became ex-Pirates boss Paul Buckle's 12th signing of that summer.
