Chesterfield move right for career - Leam Richardson

New Chesterfield assistant manager Leam Richardson has called his decision to join the club "a good move".

The 33-year-old left the manager's position at Accrington Stanley to replace Tommy Wright as Paul Cook's assistant at the Spireites.

Richardson previously worked under Cook at Stanley.

"I think career-minded people and people in football will realise that this is a very good move," he told BBC Radio Sheffield.

"Certain people will question it but I see the bigger picture because I'm only 33 and I have a lot to learn.

"Once the question got asked and I sat down with my family it quickly became apparent that this would be an exciting move.

"You can see that this is a club going in the right direction and it needs to get there quickly."

Richardson took over at the Store First Stadium after Cook left for Chesterfield in October and guided the club to League Two survival.

His exit brings to a close to an eight-year association with the club as both a player and coach.

"I'll take some fantastic memories from Accrington and it'll live with me forever," he added.

"If I dropped out of football tomorrow then it'd still be a big part of my life.

"I've met some fantastic people there that I consider as friends rather than colleagues. When you move on you quickly realise how close you are to certain people."
