Newport County boss Justin Edinburgh is convinced his players will not freeze in Sunday's Conference Promotion final at Wembley.

County face Wrexham with promotion to the Football League the prize.

Edinburgh, who won two Wembley finals with Spurs as a player, believes his team will be able to cope with the big day.

"I'll just try and get them to play the game rather than the occasion," he said.

"I've played in finals myself as a player and I've seen some great players go missing and they have no idea why.

"I think the occasion sometimes gets too much for players, but I think we've got good experience in our group.

"A lot of people have had play-off experience so I'm pretty confident we'll be able to deal with it."

During his 10-year career at Tottenham, Edinburgh was an FA Cup winner in 1991 and part of the team which won the League Cup in 1999.

Newport and Wrexham have both appeared at Wembley during the last 12 months in FA Trophy Finals with contrasting fortunes.

Edinburgh's side were beaten 2-0 by York City in last season's FA Trophy final while Wrexham defeated Grimsby on penalties in March.

"No one remembers losers. Everyone wants to be involved with the winners," Edinburgh added.

"We've put so much hard work in - everyone connected with the club.

"We're one step away now and we won't lose focus or sight of how big a game it is."

The former Tottenham defender has said winning promotion to the Football League would be the greatest achievement in his career to date.

"It would be the pinnacle of my career so far. Obviously I want to keep bettering that," Edinburgh said.

"But my goal when I started as a young apprentice at Southend was that I wanted to get to the top.

"I was fortunate enough to do that [as a player], but I want to do the same as a manager and manage at the highest level possible.

"That would be the next step on my ladder, to become a Football League manager."

Sport Wales will preview the Conference Promotion Final this Friday at 22:00 BST on BBC Two Wales.
