Kevin MacDonald positive on Swindon Town stay

Kevin MacDonald is positive he will remain in charge of Swindon Town despite speculation he is only tied to a short-term deal.

Recent newspaper reports suggested the Scotsman, appointed in February, is not contracted for the 2013/14 campaign.

But speaking after his side's League One play-off semi-final defeat by Brentford, he told BBC Wiltshire: "I expect to be here next season.

"I'll be speaking to the owners and hopefully things will be sorted."

MacDonald succeeded Paolo Di Canio as manager with Town still in the race for automatic promotion.

But they had to settle for a sixth-place finish at the end of the regular season after losing four of their final six games.

The two-legged play-off with the Bees finished 4-4 on aggregate and Swindon eventually lost on penalties.

"There's not a lot you can say to the players," said MacDonald.

"Some of them are quite experienced and know how disappointing it is. They all wanted to get to Wembley for themselves, their families and the supporters but it wasn't to be."

MacDonald said he will now focus on forming his squad for next season, although he admits his plans will hinge on their financial situation.

"I've not really [made decisions] as we were concentrating on this [the play-offs]," he said.

"It's been a busy two months for me and for the players. No decisions have been made but we just need to see what the finances are.

"And that's the thing with Swindon - we don't know about finances at this moment."
