Cardiff City: McPhail departs, McNaughton offered new deal

Cardiff's City have confirmed that midfielder Stephen McPhail, 33, will leave the newly-promoted club after seven years in south Wales.

Having been dogged by illness, the ex-Republic of Ireland international has not played a league game this season.

McPhail was diagnosed with a form of lymphoma in November 2009 and then the autoimmune disease Sjogren's Syndrome.

Meanwhile, 30-year-old defender Kevin McNaughton, who was not a regular last season, has been offered a new deal.

Cardiff City's retained list for next season confirms the departures of McPhail and Heidar Helguson when their contracts expire on 30 June.

Development professionals Elliott Parish, Nat Jarvis and Jesse Darko will also leave Cardiff City this summer having not been offered new deals.

Adedeji Oshilaja and Ronnie Hawkins have been offered contracts, while an option has been exercised to retain promising full-back Luke Coulson.

Six apprentices have been offered professional deals after graduating through the Cardiff City Academy - Dane Griffiths, Gethyn Hill, Kane Owen, David Richards, Theo Wharton and Josh Yorwerth.

In addition, Tommy O'Sullivan has been offered a professional deal with a year left to run on his apprentice agreement.
