Ten-man Derry lost for the second successive league game after David McMillan netted two penalties for UCD at the Brandywell.

Robbie Benson put the visitors ahead on 59 minutes, before brilliant strikes from Rory Patterson and Barry McNamee turned the game in Derry's favour.

McMillan converted a 79th-minute penalty after Dermot McCaffrey was shown red for a foul on Dean Clarke.

McMillan added another spot-kick before Clarke's injury-time strike.

After a goalless first half, the students went ahead through Benson, who was on hand to sweep home after Gerard Doherty had saved from McMillan.

Declan Devine's men quickly levelled matters when Mark Griffin found Patterson, who quickly turned and lashed the ball into the bottom corner from 20 yards.

There was better to come from Derry when, following David O'Connor's foul on Patterson, McNamee stepped up to curl a left-footed strike from the edge of the area into the top corner of the net.

When Clarke got goal side of McCaffrey after 78 minutes, referee Paul McLaughlin had no hesitation in pointing to the spot and showing red after the full-back clipped his man.

McMillan calmly rolled the ball down the middle, and five minutes later, repeated the feat by lashing the ball high past Doherty after Stewart Greacen was harshly adjudged to have fouled Clarke.

There was still time for Griffin to hit a post before Clarke sealed the points with a fine strike in the third minute of added time.

With City pushing for the equaliser, UCD countered and, when left with space 25 yards out, Clarke hammered the ball past Doherty to seal the points.
