Striker Jon Parkin has signed a new one-year contract at Fleetwood Town.

Parkin joined Fleetwood, the 12th club of his career, on a free transfer last summer after being released by Cardiff.

The 31-year-old ended their first season in the Football League as the club's top scorer with 12 goals in 24 appearances, including two hat-tricks.

But a persistent hamstring injury prevented him for featuring more for the Cod Army, who finished 13th in League Two, in 2012-13.

Meanwhile, Fleetwood have announced that Nathan Pond's testimonial will be played against Preston North End, his home town club, at Highbury on 20 July.

The centre-back, 27, is being rewarded for a decade of service, during which he helped Fleetwood to five promotions and a place in the fourth tier of English football.
