Brighton: Gus Poyet exit would be big loss - Orlandi

Brighton midfielder Andrea Orlandi hopes the club will be able to keep hold of manager Gus Poyet.

Poyet said he would be considering his own future after missing out on a place in the Championship play-off final.

Orlandi told BBC Sussex: "He is ambitious. I said the chance to keep him was to get promoted.

"It won't be possible this year but let's see what happens. If he leaves it will be a big loss. Let's hope he stays."

Poyet joined Brighton in November 2009 and led the Seagulls to the League One title in his first full season in charge.

The former Chelsea and Spurs midfielder has established the club in the Championship following their move to the Amex Stadium in 2011 and their fourth-placed finish this season is the club's highest league since relegation from the old First Division in 1983.

The Uruguayan is under contract until 2016 but he has made no secret of his ambition to manage in the Premier League in the past, although he turned down a chance to take over at Reading earlier this season.

"I fear [he may go] because he has been linked with so many clubs," Orlandi said.

"Every time there has been a place on a Premier League bench he has been linked with them.

"I don't know what he will do. It is his and the club's decision.

"He brings the style of football we play and he can bring players like David Lopez, Vicente and Wayne Bridge because he attracts their attention.

"He has been great to me and played me in a lot of games.

"The club needs to do something to keep him.

"The players tried everything to get this club into the Premier League but it wasn't possible."
