Graham Carey and Sam Parkin to exit St Mirren

St Mirren have confirmed they are releasing Graham Carey - along with Sam Parkin - days after the midfielder won a national goal of the season award.

The 23-year-old's long-range strike against Hearts on 27 February was voted top of a Clydesdale Bank Premier League end-of-season poll.

But the Irishman's two-year spell in Paisley will end this summer.

And Lewis Guy, Grant Adam, Lee Mair and Dougie Imrie have all been told they are not in Danny Lennon's plans.

All four players remain under contract after the summer at St Mirren Park.

Much-travelled 32-year-old English-born striker Parkin signed a one-year contract in June.

Parkin, who made one appearance for Scotland B, made 31 appearances for the Buddies, but the last of his three goals for the Paisley side came in October.

The striker, who started his career with Chelsea and was also on the books of Swindon Town, Ipswich Town, Walsall and St Johnstone, had signed for St Mirren after leaving Queen of the South.

Carey, a former Republic of Ireland Under-21 international, played 32 times this season, his only goal of the season proving a hit with fans and football pundits.

The midfielder had joined St Mirren after being released by Celtic, from whom he spent loan spells with Bohemians, the Buddies and Huddersfield Town.

With Carey and Parkin not being offered new contracts, the Scottish Communities League Cup winners are facing a summer of major personnel changes.

St Mirren manager Danny Lennon indicated that goalkeeper Craig Samson and midfielder Paul McGowan were likely to exit the club despite being offered new contracts.

Motherwell intend to hold signing talks with Samson, while McGowan is considering his options and attracting interest from Birmingham City among other clubs.

Defender Paul Dummett revealed that parent club Newcastle United want himself and on-loan midfielder Conor Newton to return to the Premier League club and continue their development in the Championship next season.

Esmael Goncalves is due to return to Portuguese club Rio Ave at the end of the season, although the forward has said he would welcome a return to St Mirren next term.

Meanwhile, 25-year-old Estonia forward Sander Puri, who joined in March after exiting Finnish outfit Kuopio, will not be retained by Lennon after only two first-team displays.
