Dundee's John Baird poised for Partick Thistle switch

Partick Thistle expect to complete the signing of striker John Baird on Friday after the 27-year-old striker decided to leave Dundee.

It means he swaps the club relegated from the Scottish Premier League with the one replacing them.

"Partick Thistle are a club on the up with a lot of good young players," Baird told the club website.

"At 27, I think I'll be one of the older players in the squad and I'm looking forward to getting started."

Baird began his career with Clyde before moving to St Mirren, but it was in the lower leagues where his scoring prowess developed.

Following loan spells with Stenhousemuir and Montrose, he moved to the latter on a full-time basis before switching to Airdrie United and Raith Rovers.

Baird joined promoted Dundee at the start of last season and went on to score five goals in 45 appearances.

"I'm from Glasgow but it's been a wee while since I've played my football down here," he said.

"My neighbour is actually a Thistle fan, so he will be pleased that I will be signing, or at least I hope he will be pleased."

Baird attended a couple of Thistle matches on their way to the Division One title.

"I was at the Raith Rovers game and the match with Morton," he said. "You really saw the potential of the club that night.

"I saw how good some of the players were and a lot of people told me that Thistle were by far the best side in the First Division last season.

"It's hard to answer just how we will do next season, but you need only look at how Ross County did last season and, before them, Inverness Caledonian Thistle to see what teams coming up are capable of."

News of Baird's departure comes amid , with the potential Texan investors saying urging a quick decision so they can secure some of their out-of-contract players for next season.

Midfielder Gary Harkins has hinted the uncertainty over ownership of Dundee may lead to him leaving the club.
