Winger Stephen Carson ends two-year spell at Glentoran

Stephen Carson has left Irish Cup winners Glentoran by mutual consent after two seasons at the Oval.

Glentoran said the 32-year-old winger's exit was the result of "very amicable discussions" over a number of weeks.

"Stephens's departure will help with the continuing financial restructuring at the club," said Glens chairman Terence Brannigan.

Striker Johnny Addis, 20, has joined the club from Carrick Rangers while Richard Gibson has left the Oval.

Carson has been linked with a move to Windsor Park side Linfield or a possible return to Coleraine.

He has also played for Rangers, Dundee United, Barnsley and Hartlepool United.

"I have really appreciated my time with Glentoran and was delighted to win an Irish Cup medal as part of the team," said Carson.

"The fans here have always been very supportive and I would like to thank them, the team and the Board."

Carson won his only Northern Ireland cap in the friendly defeat by Italy in 2009.

"I know I speak for everyone associated with Glentoran in thanking Stephen for his contribution to the club as we worked through some difficult times in the past year," said Brannigan.

"His departure will allow him to pursue other options and we wish him well for the future."
