St Johnstone manager Tommy Wright is hoping strengthen his squad next week in preparation for the Europa League second qualifying round tie.
The Perth side will take on either Crusaders or Rosenborg over two legs later this month.
David Wotherspoon has already joined Saints from Hibs, while Swansea winger Gwion Edwards is returning for a second loan spell.
"We probably need two in before Europe," said Wright.
"We're looking at left side and with Gregory Tade going, we probably need another striker in.
"If we don't get one [a striker] for Europe, we definitely need that for the start of the season.
"I think we need defensive cover as well because we're a bit light in numbers.
"If we get one or two in next week, I'll be happy with the squad going into that game."
Rosenborg lead 2-1 following the first leg of the first qualifying round tie with Crusaders going into the return match in Norway.
"I thought [Crusaders] did very well in the game," said Wright after watching the first leg.
"Rosenborg got the win but I thought, overall, Crusaders probably could've got a draw out the game.
"I've seen Rosenborg and they're a good side but I would say going to Celtic Park would be a lot more difficult than going to Trondheim.
"We're going to approach it in a positive way."
Wright is preparing for his first season as St Johnstone manager, having taken over from Steve Lomas this summer.
"First and foremost, I think it's important for St Johnstone to stay in the league," added the manager on BBC Radio Scotland's Sportsound. "The chairman has said that that's the main objective.
"Anything other than that's a bonus for a club this size but that's not to say that I'm going to settle or the players are going to settle for just staying in the league, we want to finish as high up the league as possible.
"Hopefully, we can the right players in that'll enable us to do that."
