Charlie Austin: Burnley striker fails Hull City medical

Hull's move for Charlie Austin is off after manager Steve Bruce revealed the Burnley striker failed a medical ahead of his proposed transfer.

The two clubs agreed a fee for Austin at the weekend and the 24-year-old held talks with the newly-promoted Premier League club on Monday.

However, Bruce told talkSPORT that the move was now a "non-starter".

Championship side Burnley have confirmed the transfer has collapsed because of "unforeseen complications".

Manager Sean Dyche added that he will not be involved in Burnley's friendly against Morecambe on Tuesday evening.

Former Swindon forward Austin has scored 45 goals in 90 games for the Clarets, including 28 in 40 appearances last season.

No details have been given as to why Austin failed the medical, although he does have a history of shoulder problems.

He missed the whole of January with a while he sat out the final four league matches of the season after having surgery to remove his appendix.

"There has been a bit of a problem with his medical, which is the worst scenario for everybody concerned," said Bruce. "It's an awful situation we find ourselves in but the medical is not great so it looks as if it is a non-starter at the moment.

"I think he is surprised because he has not missed many games over the last couple of years. It is a blow for him and a blow for us but these medicals are so stringent and obviously he has got a problem."
