Northampton Town: Darren Carter to join club in August

Northampton Town have signed Darren Carter after he was released by League Two rivals Cheltenham.

The midfielder, 29, joined the Robins on a short-term deal last August, later signing until the end of the season.

"Darren's a terrific professional, scores goals from midfield and is a winner," said manager Adie Boothroyd., external

"I think we've got a really, really good player on our hands. He is in absolutely fantastic shape and I'm delighted we've managed to get him."

The Solihull-born player is a product of the Birmingham City academy and played for them 53 times before moving to West Bromwich Albion for £1.5m in 2005.

He left the Baggies two years later to sign for Preston North End,, external where he spent four seasons before a year without a club came to an end with his switch to Cheltenham.

"Darren's pedigree is clear for everyone to see and he had a lot of other offers," Boothroyd added.

"He's got a great record and has played a lot of football in the top two divisions and I think he will be another excellent addition to our squad."
