Swansea City winger Nathan Dyer signs new four-year contract

Nathan Dyer has committed his future to Swansea City by signing a new four-year contract.

The winger, 25, had one year left on his original deal but has agreed terms to stay at the Liberty Stadium until July 2017.

Dyer was named man of the match for his two goals in Swansea's 5-0 victory over Bradford in the Capital One Cup final at Wembley last season.

"I've been here four years now and I wanted to stay at Swansea," said Dyer.

Dyer, who got married this summer, joined on a permanent deal from Southampton following an initial loan spell in 2009.

He scored six times in 44 appearances in all competitions last season and has become a key player for the Swans.

Dyer was again excellent as Swansea beat Malmo 4-0 at home in the first leg of their Europa League third qualifying round tie last week. The return leg in Sweden is on Thursday.

"I didn't even think about going anywhere else, so it is nice to get it all sorted," said Dyer.

"We've made a lot of progression here as a club, and I feel I have progressed too. I am still trying to improve as a footballer and I feel I can do that here.

"I think the club can continue to improve. We have made some quality signings and the squad strength is very strong now.

"You look at the potential of the club when you are making key decisions like this and I don't see the club going downhill in any way. I can only see it going up and up."

The former Saints winger enjoyed his most impressive campaign at the Liberty Stadium last season and it coincided with arguably the most successful season in the club's 100-year history.

Dyer was part of the Swansea side, under manager Michael Laudrup, which finished ninth in the Premier League and the player paid tribute to the Welsh club's family ethos.

"When I came from Southampton it was hard moving on as I had been there since I was a youngster," said Dyer.

"But the way Swansea took me in - the club, the fans, the staff - has allowed me to improve a lot more and settle very easily.

"Since I came here every season has got better. I'm on cloud nine right now.

"This is my home now, I am very settled here. It is a family club and I think a lot of players thrive because of that.

"The memories I have had from the past year have been phenomenal. It has been a whirlwind year."
