Marek Stech: Yeovil goalkeeper suffers broken hand

Yeovil goalkeeper Marek Stech has been ruled out for three months after breaking his hand in two places.

The injury occurred in the first half of Saturday's 1-0 defeat by Birmingham.

"He'll be out for three months so we've got to go out and find a new goalie to take his place," Glovers manager Gary Johnson told BBC Somerset.

One positive piece of news for Yeovil, however, is that Paddy Madden has been drafted into the Republic of Ireland squad for their friendly with Wales.

The prolific striker, who scored 23 goals for Yeovil last term to for the first time in their history, was initially on standby.

However, he will now link up with Giovanni Trapattoni's squad ahead of Wednesday's match in Cardiff.

"I am so proud to be called up to the squad. This is something I have dreamt about since I was a small lad," Madden, 23, told the Yeovil website.

"I know a few members of the squad, having played with them at other levels for Ireland. I can not wait to meet up with them all and, fingers crossed, I get to show everyone what I can do."

Yeovil's first home game at Championship level was marred by Stech's early injury, the Czech-born 23-year-old replaced by goalkeeping coach Gareth Stewart.

"It's a major concern to us but we'll find a replacement. Now I've advertised it I'll probably get 300 calls from goalkeepers," added Johnson.

"We've got a couple in mind and we've got to see if they are available."

A former Sparta Prague trainee, Stech first joined Yeovil on loan from West Ham in October 2011.

He signed a two-year deal the following summer, becoming the first permanent keeper on the Glovers' books since the 2008-09 season.
