Paris St-Germain's £55m summer signing Edinson Cavani salvaged a point for the French champions on his home debut in a 1-1 draw with Ajaccio.

The Uruguay international, 26, curled home on 86 minutes after Ajaccio goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa had frustrated the hosts for long periods.

Ajaccio, managed by ex-Middlesbrough striker Fabrizio Ravanelli, led through former France star Benoit Pedretti.

Thiago Silva hit the bar twice as PSG's season started with successive draws.

An expectant Parc des Princes crowd gave Cavani a warm pre-match welcome following his move from Napoli this summer as he started alongside Sweden striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic for the first time.

But Ajaccio, who only escaped relegation on the final day of last season, struck first as Pedretti brilliantly bent in the opener on nine minutes.

The hosts dominated for large spells but found goalkeeper Ochoa in inspired form before he was finally beaten with four minutes left by Cavani's bending finish.

"I am not going to make the same excuses, but we did not have the same energy as our opponents," said new PSG coach Laurent Blanc, who is still waiting for his first win since replacing Carlo Ancelotti in the summer.

"We are disappointed and frustrated. We will have a full week's work because, yet again, we weren't ready."

Lyon, Monaco, Marseille and St Etienne have won both their league matches played this season.
