Man City style delights new boss Manuel Pellegrini

Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini says he is delighted with the manner of his side's 4-0 win over Newcastle.

Goals from David Silva, Sergio Aguero, Yaya Toure and Samir Nasri crowned a perfect start for the Chilean boss, who replaced Roberto Mancini in the summer.

"I'm very happy, not only because we won but the way we played - that was the most important thing," he said.

"We played as an aggressive team without the ball and that's important if we want to be an offensive team."

City, last season's Premier League runners-up, were 2-0 ahead within 22 minutes, but they were helped when Newcastle defender Steven Taylor was sent off for a swipe at Aguero just before half-time.

City have spent £86.9m over the summer on new players Jesus Navas, Fernandinho, Alvaro Negredo and Stevan Jovetic, making them the biggest spenders in the Premier League since last season came to a close.

Both Navas and Fernandinho made their full debuts, with Negredo coming on as a late substitute.

Ominously, Pellegrini, who joined City from Spanish side Malaga in June, said there was more to come from his new-look side.

Of Navas and Fernandinho, the 59-year-old manager told BBC Sport: "Both of them played very well, they are different players.

"Jesus Navas played very wide, he is very dangerous with his crosses inside the area and Fernandinho played for 90 minutes with and without the ball. I am very happy with both of them.

"Negredo, you will see what a great player both he and Stevan Jovetic are."

Despite not scoring, it was established forward Edin Dzeko, who set up the first two goals, that impressed.

Pellegrini said: "It's a pity that Dzeko didn't score, he had some clear chances but I think the same thing about my team; he worked hard with and without the ball and I'm sure he will score a lot of goals this season."

Bosnian Dzeko said: "The new manager brings something different to us, especially to me. He gives me confidence and that's what I needed."
